YOUNA CHO
In-School, Albany Park & Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Conductor
Youna Cho, born in Chicago and of Korean descent, grew up in an environment filled with music. Her parents are extensively involved with choral music—her father being a conductor, composer, arranger and vocalist as well as her mother being a conductor, arranger, vocalist and pianist—inspiring her to develop a love for the choral repertoire since an early age.
Ms. Cho is a singer and also a seasoned pianist, having studied classical piano since age 4, and currently serves as an active accompanist and chamber musician. As a clarinetist, Ms. Cho is an active solo and chamber performer and teaches a full private studio as well as in various schools in the Chicago suburban area. Ms. Cho also was an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in 2007.
Ms. Cho received a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePaul University, where she majored in both Music Performance and Music Education, studying under Larry Combs (Principal Clarinetist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra) as well as with Julie DeRoche and Wagner Campos. She also holds a Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from Northwestern University, studying under Steve Cohen. Ms. Cho served as a member of the DePaul University faculty in 2007 and has held the position as Children’s Choir Director for Kenilworth Holy Comforter Church since 2006. She served as Assistant Tour Manager for the Chicago Children’s Choir Concert Choir 2008 tour to South Korea and is proud to serve as the Conductor of the Albany Park and Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choirs as well as several In-School Program Choirs.
