Creating and Instructing Choirs in Chicago's Schools

Through the Choir’s In-School Program (Vendor #73393), more than 2,400 children in 51 schools receive classroom training in basic music theory and choral performance from professional music educators. By developing musical skills and performing in public, the children acquire poise, increased self-esteem and an understanding that discipline and hard work bring rewards.

Your school can become a part of the citywide In-School Program. The In-School Program provides your school with a qualified conductor to establish a choir consisting of 20-50 students, 1 or 2 choral classes each week, multicultural repertoire exposing your students to a wide variety of music and its historical context, materials including sheet music, theory worksheets and performance uniform shirts and ties for all singers, and citywide choral performances with other members of Chicago Children’s Choir. Our repertoire and curriculum is best suited to begin at the 3rd & 4th grade level.

Participating schools must commit to weekly hours during the school day, a suitable room with piano/keyboard and chalkboard, and performance opportunities both in their own school and across the city during field trips organized by Chicago Children’s Choir.
